The Buddha (The One who is Awake) said:  "The mind is everything.  What you think, you become."

At first glance, this Teaching seems simplistic, but with contemplation we can gain insight into the depths of reality. For example, if we wanted to become the best we can possibly be, does that mean becoming a humanitarian? Do we want to be liberated? Do we want to become the Warrior Saint? Does being the best we can be mean being inclusive, kind and compassionate to all beings? Does that mean enlightenment? Depending upon our karmic propensities we will be drawn to one or more of these potentials.
